Halacha

Halacha is the body of Jewish law and legal practice developed from the Torah, Talmud, later legal codes, rabbinic responsa and communal precedent.

Also called: Halakhah · Jewish law

It covers far more than religious ritual: contracts, lending, damages, property, inheritance, business conduct and dispute resolution can all raise halachic questions. There is no single modern worldwide authority whose rulings bind every Jewish community, so practice can depend on the legal authorities and traditions a community follows.
