Oman has developed mobile clearing/payment infrastructure supporting 24/7 digital transactions and QR capabilities.
Maal
Maal is Oman's national payment card, supervised by CBO and issued through eligible banks/PSPs.
CBO states that Maal is intended for local use and regional GCC acceptance through GCCNet.
AFAQ
Omani banks are progressively onboarding to AFAQ. GPC announced additional Omani bank onboarding during 2025–2026.
Virtual assets
Oman requires VASPs to register and comply with AML/CFT requirements.
This gives Oman a supervised virtual-asset perimeter, but it does not mean a private stablecoin is automatically equivalent to OMR for ordinary payment purposes.
